Hearing your fields

Every field is different and will tell its story if properly asked. FarmTest’s field trial design and execution service makes it simple to ask your fields which management practices perform best. Our field trial analysis service makes it easy to understand how your fields respond.

When FarmTest customers sit down each year to buy seeds, crop protection, and fertilizer, they can base their decisions on well-characterized performance data from their own fields. Other farmers instead rely on regional performance data provided by the companies selling them inputs.

Our Services

FarmTest’s software makes it easy to design and execute on-farm performance tests and to analyze on-farm performance tests, to understand what pays off in your own fields.

How it works

Based on your test questions, previous yield data, and farm equipment characteristics (planter width, applicator width, combine width, controller make and model, etc.) FarmTest produces a variable rate prescription that embodies your experiment. It has repeated pairs of control and test plots, for example corresponding to applying fungicide and not applying fungicide, to enable a statistically rigorous comparison. By building the experiment into a variable rate prescription, your controller takes care of changing rates and executing the experiment appropriately so you or your hired help don’t have to worry about it.

After harvest, FarmTest uses your as-harvested data and your as-planted or as-applied data to determine the average yield difference between the control and test treatments and to quantify how believable / uncertain each result is by comparing it to the experiment’s least significant difference. The results are compiled in an easy to understand pdf report. This will work with a trial designed by FarmTest and with other trial designs.

Example variable rate prescription for an 80 acre field with an embedded on-farm performance test. The black outlined rectangles mark replicated pairs of control plots (green) and test plots (orange). For this trial, each plot is 120’ by 200’.
